October Membership Meeting: Judge Lesley Briones

Join TDWHarris at our monthly regular meeting on Monday, October 28, 2019, to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. We will be joined by Judge Lesley Briones from Harris County Civil Court at Law No. 4. Lesley is committed to upholding the law with impartiality, administering equal justice, and treating everyone who comes into her courtroom with respect, fairness, and compassion. She is a graduate of Yale Law School and Harvard University.

September Membership Meeting-Diane Trautman & Ann Harris Bennett

Join us at our monthly regular meeting on Monday, September 23, 2019. Harris County Clerk Diane Trautman and Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar Ann Harris Bennett will talk to us about voting and elections in Harris County and the changes they have implemented since being elected to help make voter registration and voting easier and more accessible, including their plans for the future.

August Membership Meeting: LGBTQIA+101

Join us at our monthly regular meeting on August 26, 2019. Local activist and educator Lou Weaver will join us to teach us about the different sexual orientations and gender identities encompassed by the LGBTQIA+ umbrella, including the unique and shared struggles of these communities and how those of us who are not members of the community can show our support.

Lou is a queer transgender man and a leader in Houston’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community. With trans healthcare as a key component of his advocacy portfolio, he has helped educate healthcare providers and medical student groups on culturally competent care for the LGBTQ communities.

When: Monday, August 26 at 6:30 pm

HCDLA Annual Summer CLE & Reception

The Texas Tribune is touring the state with a series of post-session events recapping the major policy debates of the 86th Texas Legislature and what they mean for Texas’ largest cities and surrounding communities.

Join them in person or on live stream for a conversation about public education, taxes, immigration, health care, spending and other consequential matters with Houston-area legislators — state Sen. Carol Alvarado and state Reps. Sarah Davis, Dan Huberty and Armando Walle. The conversation will be moderated by Evan Smith, co-founder and CEO of The Texas Tribune.

Houston In Concert Against Hate: A Date with Laughter

ADL is bringing together the City of Houston to remind everyone to stop, smile, and enjoy A Date with Laughter, featuring Colin Jost from Saturday Night Live! ADL will celebrate its wins in the fight against hate this year and find the strength we need to re-commit to the good fight through the power of laughter.

Houston in Concert Against Hate is ADL Southwest’s annual celebration of the Houston community’s commitment to standing up against hate and embracing diversity, which furthers ADL’s mission to secure justice and fair treatment to all.

Pride Forum – Houston City Council District C

The Pride Forum is a non-partisan collaboration between LGBTQ+ organizations to engage candidates for public office in discussions about policy proposals and candidate positions and their impacts on the LGBTQ+ community. The first Pride Forum will be welcoming candidates for Houston City Council District C. A social mixer will begin at 6:30 pm and the official forum program will start at 7 pm.
