On Saturday, March 14, 2020, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, TDWHarris is hosting its 10th annual “Women Making History” Awards luncheon at the Junior League of Houston, 811 Briar Oaks Ln, Houston, TX 77027.  At this event, TDWHarris will honor four women, nominated by our members and local Democratic activists and leaders, who have worked tirelessly for Democratic causes – not for fame or glory, but because it’s the right thing to do. We will also recognize a longtime leader in the community with a Leadership Award, and introduce a Rising Star Award for the first time this year.

TDW Annual Summer Retreat

Texas Democratic Women of the South Plains invites all TDW members to the annual TDW Summer Retreat in Lubbock, TX on Saturday, July 27 at the Overton Hotel, 2322 Mac Davis Lane. Our theme is “Women Empowering Women.” Registration is $65 and includes all materials, breakfast, coffee, and lunch on Saturday.

The Overton Hotel has reserved a block of rooms for Retreat attendees, available both Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27. Room reservations may be made by calling the hotel directly at 806-776-7000 and requesting a room under the “TDW Summer Retreat” room block or online using this direct link.

Rooms are $129 for either a standard 2 Queen or standard 1 King room plus 13% tax for an estimated total of $145.77.

Directly across the street from the Overton is also the Hyatt Place. Rooms are not blocked there, but their reservation link is included for everyone’s information.

Houston In Concert Against Hate: A Date with Laughter

ADL is bringing together the City of Houston to remind everyone to stop, smile, and enjoy A Date with Laughter, featuring Colin Jost from Saturday Night Live! ADL will celebrate its wins in the fight against hate this year and find the strength we need to re-commit to the good fight through the power of laughter.

Houston in Concert Against Hate is ADL Southwest’s annual celebration of the Houston community’s commitment to standing up against hate and embracing diversity, which furthers ADL’s mission to secure justice and fair treatment to all.

Movie Night with TDWHarris

In honor of Women’s History Month, join TDWHarris for a movie night on Friday, March 29th, when we will watch RBG, the Academy Award-nominated documentary about the life and career of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

RBG was chosen by the National Board of Review as the Best Documentary Film of 2018, and nominated for several other awards, including the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary.

Bring a box/bag of your favorite movie candy or snack to share, and TDWHarris will provide the popcorn!

9th Annual Women Making History Awards Luncheon

TDWHarris’ Ninth Annual “Women Making History” Awards Luncheon will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019.  We will honor 4 women who have worked hard for the Democratic cause, not for fame or glory, but because it is the right thing to do.

We will also honor an icon of our community, a role model, to receive our “Leadership Award.”  Each year we recognize a woman who has led the way, blazing a trail for the rest of us to follow.
