September Membership Meeting – Woman to Woman: Impact of District Courts and Importance of Down-Ballot Elections

Join TDWHarris for the first in our Woman to Woman series, a panel featuring Harris County’s Judge Ramona Franklin, Judge Julia Maldonado, and Judge Ursula Hall. These three outstanding Democratic women judges represent the criminal courts, family courts, and civil courts, respectively. They will help us to better understand the impact the different courts can have on average people in their day-to-day lives and why it is important to elect more progressive Democrats to fill those positions by voting Blue all the way down the ballot in 2020.

July Membership Meeting – Institutionalized Racism and Policing Reform

TDWHarris will be resuming our monthly membership meetings virtually on Monday, July 27, 2020.

Join us as we hear from Black Lives Matter: Houston co-founder Kandice Webber, Houston City Council member Letitia Plummer, and Licensed Professional Counselor Lara Allen about institutionalized racism in law enforcement, policing reform and what we can do right now in Houston to effect meaningful change, what it really means when activists talk about defunding police, and the roles mental health professionals and social workers can play in replacing armed law enforcement.

March 24, 2020 Meeting – Ways Women Give Up Power & How to Reclaim It

In recognition of Women’s History Month, Licensed Professional Counselor, Author and Democratic candidate for Texas House of Representatives Sandra G. Moore will speak to us about some of the ways women give up our power and what can be done to reclaim it.

Join TDWHarris for our February membership meeting where we will celebrate Black History Month with a panel consisting of Councilwoman Tiffany Thomas, Chair of the Houston Black American Democrats, Audrie Lawton, and Vice Chair of the Texas Democratic Party, Dr. Carla Brailey, about the power and importance of the votes of Black Women to the success of the Democratic Party.

October Membership Meeting: Judge Lesley Briones

Join TDWHarris at our monthly regular meeting on Monday, October 28, 2019, to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. We will be joined by Judge Lesley Briones from Harris County Civil Court at Law No. 4. Lesley is committed to upholding the law with impartiality, administering equal justice, and treating everyone who comes into her courtroom with respect, fairness, and compassion. She is a graduate of Yale Law School and Harvard University.

September Membership Meeting-Diane Trautman & Ann Harris Bennett

Join us at our monthly regular meeting on Monday, September 23, 2019. Harris County Clerk Diane Trautman and Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar Ann Harris Bennett will talk to us about voting and elections in Harris County and the changes they have implemented since being elected to help make voter registration and voting easier and more accessible, including their plans for the future.

August Membership Meeting: LGBTQIA+101

Join us at our monthly regular meeting on August 26, 2019. Local activist and educator Lou Weaver will join us to teach us about the different sexual orientations and gender identities encompassed by the LGBTQIA+ umbrella, including the unique and shared struggles of these communities and how those of us who are not members of the community can show our support.

Lou is a queer transgender man and a leader in Houston’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community. With trans healthcare as a key component of his advocacy portfolio, he has helped educate healthcare providers and medical student groups on culturally competent care for the LGBTQ communities.
